One of our members, Bryan Blanc, is organizing a group of ITE students to participate in this years Discover Hartford Bicycle Tour this Saturday morning. Students will meet at UConn at 7 am and carpool to Bushnell Park in downtown Hartford. UConnITE will help cover the registration cost of participating members. The event is an excellent opportunity to help promote cycling in the Hartford area – and great way to enjoy this beautiful Fall weather!

If you are interested in participating, please email Bryan at bryan.blanc@uconn.edu.

Hope to see you there!

Welcome Back Fall BBQ!

Hello Everyone! – and Welcome Back!

To kick off the new school year, UConn ITE would like to invite you to our Fall BBQ being held Saturday, September 22 from Noon to 3 at Mansfield Hollow State Park. This annual event is a great opportunity for us to welcome new transportation students, staff, and faculty to the university and just enjoy the (hopefully) amazing Fall weather!

UConn ITE will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggieburgers. If you plan on attending, we would like you to bring your favorite side dish to share with the group! Family and friends are more than welcome to attend. If you need a ride to Mansfield Hollow, please let us know and we will do our best to connect you with a driver.
Hope to see everyone there!

Don’t forget to join us this Friday for a bike awareness ride around campus. Meet in front of the library on Fairfield Way at 5PM and bring the noise.

Kelly and Jorge at the Spring Fling event

On April 19th UConn ITE was invited to showcase our sustainable transportation initiatives at the university wide Earth Day celebration held in the heart of campus. Promoting bike safety and awareness, members of our chapter came up with several creative ways to get people involved and start the conversation. Jorge Simbaqueba, a graduating masters student donated his used road bike to be raffled off for free and combined with his costume seen above were a major draw for attendees. In addition to the bike raffle and safety tips being offered, UConn ITE also educated the student body and community on the newly opened bike share program on campus, UConn Cycles. The event was very successful and over 300 people stopped by to chat and learn about biking on campus.

On Tuesday April 10th we hosted the ITE Northeastern District research symposium. We had guests from various New England universities and several area employers. The event was a great success as students, faculty, and professionals were able to take part in a diverse program that offered a campus bike tour, a student poster session, a tour of the CT Advanced Pavement Laboratory and several student presentations. The event was closed with a very informative discussion on the future of CT planning initiatives by our keynote speakers, Mark Paquette executive director of the Windham Region Council of Governments (WINCOG) and Mary Ellen Kowalewski director of policy and planning at the Capital Region Council of Governments (CROCG).

Thanks to the generosity of UConn ITE members and faculty, the organization was able to donate as a whole to Heifer International and purchased a goat and a flock of geese to be sent to someone in need.

UConn ITE recognizes the need to reach out and help locally and globally!
