On April 19th UConn ITE was invited to showcase our sustainable transportation initiatives at the university wide Earth Day celebration held in the heart of campus. Promoting bike safety and awareness, members of our chapter came up with several creative ways to get people involved and start the conversation. Jorge Simbaqueba, a graduating masters student donated his used road bike to be raffled off for free and combined with his costume seen above were a major draw for attendees. In addition to the bike raffle and safety tips being offered, UConn ITE also educated the student body and community on the newly opened bike share program on campus, UConn Cycles. The event was very successful and over 300 people stopped by to chat and learn about biking on campus.

On Tuesday April 10th we hosted the ITE Northeastern District research symposium. We had guests from various New England universities and several area employers. The event was a great success as students, faculty, and professionals were able to take part in a diverse program that offered a campus bike tour, a student poster session, a tour of the CT Advanced Pavement Laboratory and several student presentations. The event was closed with a very informative discussion on the future of CT planning initiatives by our keynote speakers, Mark Paquette executive director of the Windham Region Council of Governments (WINCOG) and Mary Ellen Kowalewski director of policy and planning at the Capital Region Council of Governments (CROCG).
